What is falconry?

Falconry is the art and sport of training birds of prey, mainly falcons, hawks, and buzzards, for hunting. The main objective of the falconer is to train a bird to return to the fist when called, and then to train the bird to hunt with the falconer. Falconry is called a sport because it is a type of hunting and is only successful when the bird, falconer, and dogs work together as a team to capture quarry. It is often referred to as an art because some of the interaction with the bird, and interpretation of the bird's behavior, is based on intuition.
